Gallbladder Series. A GB Series is a special X-ray of your gallbladder. This test is performed to see if your gallbladder is normal or diseased. This test requires 45 minutes to one hour to complete.
For supper you will have a fat free meal such as consommé or a large fruit platter.After supper, you may have clear fluids, such as tea or ginger ale, until 9 PM. After 9 PM, and until after the examination is completed, you may neither eat nor drink.
At 6 PM, the night before the exam, you will take 6 pills with lots of water. These pills are a contrast agent which is needed for the X-ray the next day. These pills may cause nausea or diarrhea.
During the test
You will be brought down to the Radiology Department in a wheelchair. An X-ray technologist will assist you into a room and take X-ray pictures of your gallbladder. If the gallbladder is not visualized you may have another test performed the following day. If your gallbladder is visualized you may be given a special drink and have additional films taken.
After the test
After the test you will be brought back to your room or discharged home. You are then allowed to eat your normal diet.
